The core business of Template Design Limited is Provision of Drill Bits and Engineering Services. The drill bits include various types, both of the roller cone group – Milled Tooth (MT) and Tungsten Carbide Inserts (TCI) – and Polycrystalline Diamond Compact (PDC) bits. The PDC bits include the Steel-bodied and Matrix-bodied types. We market some special PDC products such as Micro-Coring Bit (MCB) and Core Heads. The roller cone bits are manufactured by Drill Bit International (DBI, also known as Greaves Cotton) while the PDC bits are manufactured by the duo of Diamant Drilling Services (DDS) and Encore.
The PDC bits from Encore and DDS are manufactured from plants located in the United States of America (USA) and Belgium respectively, while the DBI products come from our plant located in India, and Dubai in the United Arab Emirate (UAE).
Tercel's unique SideWinder bits are patent-pending drill bit technology targeted at both rotary steerable system and steerable motor directional drilling applications. The SideWinder's continuous cutting structure wraps around the sides of each bit, even up-hole.
This eliminates gauge pads and dramatically increases the lateral cutting ability of the bit while reducing friction and drag on directional tools. SideWinder bits produce more efficient build rates that standard PDC designs cannot match. SideWinder bits are available in most traditional bit design layouts, including twin cutters.
The SideWinder was developed by Encore, which is leading further research and development into even more effective products.
Often, it is required to drill long non abrasive sections with a PDC bit. When hard and abrasive formation is encountered at the end of the run, it is then required to pull the used bit and finish up with a second bit (PDC or impreg).
A dual cutting structure bit is fitted with PDC layout that will ensure a high performance drilling process of the non abrasive section. Once the abrasive part is reached, the PDC will wear out and the secondary cutting structure will help complete the run without the need for a second bit.
A dual bit has all the benefit of a PDC bit combined with the additional benefits of the impreg.Strategically positioned, the impreg diamond distribution works in correlation with the PDC diamond distribution. Such products can help you save a trip and reduce your drilling cost.
The Microcore™ Bit (MCB™) is the latest Tercel drill bit technology innovation, resulting from an extended R&D program led in collaboration with TOTAL S.A. The MCB allows a small diameter core to be cut while drilling. The core is broken by the bit and carried to surface through the annulus along with the cuttings. In comparison to conventional drill bits, the MCB delivers significantly increased rates of penetration, from 15% to 25%, and produces higher quality cuttings to enhance formation evaluation. The MCB was developed by Diamant, which is leading further research and development for even more effective products.
The MCB allows the generation of a micro-core of the formation being drilled in the center area of the bit, where the cutting structure is interrupted. This process occurs continuously as drilling progresses. 1. While drilling, the micro-core advances to its nominal size and reaches a core breaker. 2. A lateral force is then applied on the micro-core, inducing the failure. 3. The micro-core is led to the annulus via an evacuation area. This area is a larger and deeper slot between the 2 front blades. This evacuation area always remains open, preventing any risk of bit plugging.
By comparison to conventional drill bits and thanks to its specific design, the MCB brings: 1. Drilling performance improvement 2. High quality formation sample for formation evaluation
MCB is available in all sizes, PDC, dual and impregnated technologies, and in steel or matrix body.
